On Friday, February 13, I arrived at the Seaview Resort Hotel in Galloway, NJ to attend Clayathon 2015. As I expected, my experience there was communal, relaxing, entertaining, educational, and productive.
This year’s Guest Artist was Alev Gozonar, a renown polymer clay artist from Istanbul, Turkey. On Saturday Alev shared her creative growth as an artist by giving us a slide presentation of her work. Her second class was a sit-down, gather-round demo of how she uses polymer, wood and high density foam board to create her large works that are on display in Istanbul hotels and galleries.
On Monday morning, Alev demonstrated how she took cane slices, wire and plexiglass to make the most fascinating and original 3D works of polymer art I’ve ever seen.
In addition to meeting Alev, I learned all about resin from my table mate, Diane Hulse, a contemporary jewelry artist from New York.
Also, we enjoyed demonstration from other attendees, an impromptu dance session to Motown’s Greatest Hits, the raffle of 60+ great items, poker night, meals with friends, old and new, and exercise in the hotel’s gym or pool. In fact, after I parked my car on Friday morning when I arrived I did not venture outside until Monday afternoon when I headed for home.
