I made a horrible mistake this past month and it proves what a novice I am at creating a website. I decided to switch host servers but had no idea what a pain in the butt it would be. The host I switched to (BlueHost) gave me no information about what I needed to do to make the switch. They were so willing to take my $$ that they made it sound like I didn’t need to do anything accept provide them with my logon ID and password to access my previous host’s server and TaDa it would be magically done. When I discovered it wasn’t, all I got was a lot of technical gobbledegook from their tech department. When I returned with questions I usually got more goggledegook or perhaps one answer to one question leaving the rest of the questions to be retyped later. After a great deal of going back and forth between BlueHost and my previous host, I decided “screw it.” I wasn’t going to transfer anything and I would just start over. The upside is that MortimerInc gets a new beginning, leaving all the unnecessary widgets, plugins and mistakes behind. The downside is that I find myself scratching my head and wondering how the heck did I do what I did before. My brain only did it once, how can it remember? Unfortunately all my previous blog posts are in another dimension somewhere but not where I can access them. Our past life and website is gone and we are truly starting anew. How often do we get to do that?
